Round Two for 2023 Legislation
The first half of the 2023 Californian Legislative Session is now over.
All bills that survived the Committee hearings have been voted on by the entire House of Origin. In other words, Assembly Bills (AB) have been voted on by the entire Assembly, and Senate Bills (SB) have been voted on by the entire Senate.
We can claim some victories, thanks to your action:
- one author amended his bill, removing the portion we objected to
- the Appropriations Committee suspended two very bad bills, likely permanently
What’s next?
All surviving ABs begin the Committee process all over again in the Senate and all surviving SBs begin the Committee process all over again in the Assembly.
California citizens have a SECOND OPPORTUNITY to make their cases FOR or AGAINST any bill with the Committee members, in the Committee hearings (call in or attend) and, maybe most importantly, with their own representatives in the opposite House.
Here are the surviving election-related bills that EIPCa has
determined are the most important to address:
ASSEMBLY BILLS
AB 292 - dealing with NPP Primary Ballots
AB 421 - Credentialing signature gatherers (Assembly floor)
AB 626 - right to vote with a “naked” paper ballot (Assembly floor)
AB 969 - prohibits any other county to eliminate machines (Dominion, Smartmatic, etc.), as Shasta County did
